A problem that really bothers me is the amount of hunger and starvation going on in other countries around the world. Being a U.S citizen, we have the privilege of never running out of food and always having a great amount of food to choose from. If we are hungry for fast food we have a million choices right along the side of a road close to home. If we want a steak we would go to Outback, and if we wanted seafood we would go to Red Lobster. We never have a deprivation of food...never. People in the poorer parts of Africa never have those choices we do. Most of them live in poverty and when they get food it is a blessing. Thanksgiving dinner and Christmas dinners are something that they pray and hope to receive...they do not have the money or the grocery stores to present them with the ingredients to make a great big dinner like that. I see so many commercials and specials on the starvation going on in poorer countries and it makes me so sad and disgusted. We take so much for granted...if we don't like a certain food we eat we just throw it all away, no keeping it for leftovers. Every time I see that happen I think of the starving kids living in poverty, they would give anything to have those leftovers we just threw away. They would eat anything given to them.
One way we could fix this current problem would be sending over some of our mass productions of food we (the U.S) make every day. Just give them three meals a day and maybe we could start up a few markets that have certain price deals so that it is easier for the poorer citizens to afford. I just think it is rediculous that a country as prosperous and as obese as us cannot make an effort to do more for these poorer countries.
Wow! I totally agree with you on how Americans take food for granted. We are so picky and ungrateful for the food we have. I love this topic, it is very interesting. People today don't stop and think about how there are millions of people in third world countries that die because of the lack of food. I also hate seeing food get thrown away in large amounts when it can be saved for leftovers or the similar.

The world needs more people like you Megan, but you have to admit that despite your efforts you cannot eliminate the problem that the world is having with hunger. Of course this is not to discourage your thinking at all just to state that no matter what we do we are limited. That’s one of the reasons why people in Haiti are calling out to God instead of Obama. They realize that the problems they face cannot be taken care of by humans who live and then die. This is why people search for an entity greater than us. I think you would enjoy this article. I agree with Moise. This blog really speaks. A main reason why Africa is so poverty stricken other then horrible leaders and the many wars within Africa, is their population. Africa is and probably always will be very poor. African's cant afford kids but in yet an average family has like 4 or more kids. For an average american family, 4 kids is a lot. For a poverty stricken African family... one kid is probably way more then needed. I do agree that Americans take everything for granted and it is a great idea to send our surplus of food over to africa. Example.... a Publix supermarket's Bakery on average will bake a surplus of about 2-3 carts of bread, cakes/pis and other stuff. Also a Publix Deli throws away fried chicken every 3 or so hours if it isnt bought within those 3 hours of not being purchased. RIDICULIOUS! Im sure Walmart and other places are a lot worse then Publix. If somehow big companies could send this over there SOMEHOW, it would help africa and other countries and put a dent in the fight to end world hunger.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading this, something that would be a good idea is if or government offered more missionary work to people so they can fly over seas and feed the children them self. I think the perk of getting a free trip to another country would encourage more people to do missionary work. And they would feel like they're making a positive difference because they really are! :)
